Berlin 2014: Day 1 Afternoon and evening

We were met at the guest house by one of festival volunteers, Hendrik (on the right) who guided us to the workshop.

Our first workshop with Simone focused on getting us to work with what's in front of us.  She started with a number of trust and team-building type exercises, a few which we had not seen before.  In the picture below, we are playing the "Zombie Game" which had the person in the middle of the circle being the Zombie.  As they approach their "victim", that person makes eye contact with someone else in the circle. That person would then call out the name of someone else in the circle who would become the Zombie's next victim.  If the Zombie touched their victim without being redirected, that persons became the new Zombie and the old Zombie returns to the circle and the cycle continued.

We moved into exercises where the students explored the space, giving focus to different body parts.  They then moved onto naming objects in the space and shortly thereafter, Simone would tell the group to stop, close their eyes, and point in the direction of an object or person she named.

We moved through another variety of exercises which were focused on helping us develop characters based on a physical body posture and make use of what is in the environment right around us.

Our workshop finished at 3pm, at which point we started heading back to the guest house to grab some dinner and head out to our first show of the trip, the "Superscene".

Christmas Tree Chipping Fundraiser a success!

We are very excited to have been invited to attend the  Berlin Improv Festival   in March 2014!  This will be the first time ever in the festival’s 13 year history where they have hosted a high school improv group and we’re excited to be part of this unique event! Over their 10 day stay in Berlin, our students will participate in 4 days of workshops from two different instructors (not from the US or Canada) and will perform for a local school audience at the end. They also will be enjoying the festival performances and taking time to visit the historic city of Berlin itself. For a group of 16 students, the total cost is $32,000 CDN which includes their return airfare, ground transportation, accommodations, workshops and access to the festival. Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 to help reduce the per student cost to approximately $1,600. We spent this past weekend (January 4-5, 2014) collecting Christmas Trees as a fundraiser for the trip. Day #2 Crew: Conall, Fletcher, Jac
